Are all Printer Cartridges the Same?
The term printer cartridge refers to the cartridge case. Either laser toner cartridge or ink cartridge that contains the toner or ink required for the printer to provide images on paper fed through the printer.
Laser printer toner cartridges are designed and manufactured to very exact specifications. The process of laser printing with a toner cartridge takes the image that a laser light burns onto the drum of the laser printer cartridge and laying the image down on to the paper passing through the printer by heating the toner and "Fusing" the image burned to the drum.
Most printer cartridges use a combiner cartridge / drum assembly that contains the toner in the cartridge case. The fuser roller and imaging action is a part of the printer itself. Remanufactured laser printer cartridges are a popular alternative to the original manufacturer printer toner cartridges that can be quite costly.
Inkjet printer cartrdiges use a completely different printing technology to laser printer cartridges. Inkjet printers use a serial printing process. They use print heads with a number of ink nozzles or jets arranged in verticle columns. The speed and quality of ink jet printer cartridges has continued to improve over the years with ink printer cartridges now moving into the mainstream photo printing space. Ink printing cartridges can be remanufactured or refilled.
Compatible Cartridges are a common term used for remanufactured laser toner or ink printer cartridges. Compatible means the cartridges or toners can be used as a replacement to the original manufacturer printer cartridge.
